Kamloops, BC, September 12, 2024 /CNW/ – The Kroger Company announced today 32 dollars0.4 million investment in a Kamloops pulp mill to implement innovative technology to diversify its product portfolio and expand into fast-growing markets. In addition to improving Kroger Kamloops’ competitiveness, performance and environmental footprint, this initiative will help create 340 jobs at the plant, as well as 1,000 indirect jobs in BC.

This project was presented during a press event at the Kruger Kamloops facility respected Brenda BaileyMinister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation of British Columbia; Eric Ashby, Executive Vice President and CEO of Kroger Company; Roman GalloSenior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Kruger Pulp and Paper Division; and Irene Perto, General manager of the Kamloops pulp mill.

Governments Canada and British Columbia Each will contribute $5 million to the project through the Investment in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program.Canada) and the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund.

Significant environmental benefits

Kruger Kamloops The new pulp washing system increases the efficiency of the plant and significantly reduces minerals and talc in the final product. This process also results in a significant reduction in the use of bleaching chemicals.

This technology combines with advanced controls and AI-based capabilities to ensure that the pulp consistently meets the most stringent requirements for specialty products that require ultra-clean pulp.

The project, scheduled for completion in 2026, will enable Kruger Kamloops to increase ultra-clean pulp production from 43.000 tons in the first year to more than 115,000 tons per year in the third year and thereafter.
